JoyMoves Changes

This page was put up on October 20, 2008

We have decided to implement some very fundamental changes in our business. They involve a relationship with Yoga Yoga and reformulating JoyMoves’ focus and offerings. Here is what’s happening:

Take a deep breath…

And, yes, we talk about what happens to your JoyMoves memberships below too.

First, why is this happening? The Backgound. In early 2008 Rich (Raghurai) Goldstein from Yoga Yoga approached us. We’ve been friends with Rich and his wife for many years. Rich expressed an intention to expand Yoga Yoga’s presence in Austin, and to offer an enhanced group of services to their student base. Coincidentally, we wanted to increase JoyMoves’ emphasis on our Pilates program. As time progressed, our dialogue developed into a partnership which will allow both Yoga Yoga and JoyMoves to grow and develop our respective businesses and communities in the coming months and years.

Yoga Yoga will be leasing the ‘JoyMoves’ building starting November 3rd. Until then there are no changes to the JoyMoves Nia class, Pilates Mat class, Pilates MVe class or Spa or Pilates Private, Duet or Trio offerings. There’s more info below on what happens after November 3rd.

Yoga Yoga will call this their “Yoga Yoga 360” location. In the next week or so their website will be updated to contain their Yoga Yoga 360 class schedule.

Yoga Yoga will be buying our yoga business and offering a significantly expanded yoga class schedule out of the building beginning November 3rd. They’ll be offering somewhere between 35 and 40 yoga classes a week out of the facility. JoyMoves will no longer be offering yoga classes as of November 3rd. Yoga Yoga is meeting with our teachers this coming week to figure out who will teach what.

JoyMoves’ Nia classes will still be offered out of the ‘JoyMoves’ building – but there will be less of them. To make room for Yoga Yoga’s expanded yoga class offering, as of Monday, November 3rd, we’ll be reducing the number of Nia classes to the following:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30am to 10:30am
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm
  • Sundays from 10:30am to 11:45am
  • In other words, the Monday through Thursday 6:00 and 6:15pm classes will be discontinued, as will the Wed/Friday noons and the Saturday morning class.

In January 2009, JoyMoves will relocate its Nia program to a new facility that is nearby. More will follow soon on that plan.

The Women’s Movement Meditation classes are discontinued. The Friday night Oct 24th Women’s Movement Meditation Workshop is now going to be free-of-charge. Elissa Shapiro would love to hear from you if you have an alternative location where she might hold classes. Email info@joymoves.com and we’ll forward her your email if you know of another site.

We will be closed November 1st and 2nd to make some changes related to this transition. The doors will re-open for business on Monday November 3rd.

When we re-open, our Pilates program will be moved into the expanded ‘Studio 2’ in Building A across the parking lot. This will allow us to enhance our Pilates program. There will be no yoga classes (by either JoyMoves or Yoga Yoga) out of this former ‘rope wall studio’ after this time.

A new schedule for JoyMoves Pilates mat and Pilates MVe Chair classes will go up on JoyMoves website by October 30th. We also expect to add some Group Reformer classes, too, that we’ll be telling you about when we send out a newsletter on October 30th.

Yoga Yoga is also buying the Spa business from JoyMoves and will be reformulating it as well. For some time Yoga Yoga has been contemplating offering a yogically and Ayurvedically-inspired menu of treatments. The facility we’ve built offers them the opportunity to do that. They currently envision changing the menu and offering their new treatments beginning in mid-November. More will be published by them on that soon. Of course, all JoyMoves clients who currently have treatments booked with the current JoyMoves-spa menu will be provided with those treatments prior to the change of menu.

The go-forward plan for JoyMoves’ class pass holders. The remaining classes on your class passes will be honored. For example, if you have 6 classes left on an 8-pass, then you can take up to 6 classes. They can be yoga (from Yoga Yoga), Nia or Pilates mat or MVe chair classes from JoyMoves.

The go-forward plan for JoyMoves’ yearly unlimited members. Both Yoga Yoga and JoyMoves will honor the remainder of a client’s yearly unlimited membership with unlimited yoga and unlimited Nia, Pilates mat and Pilates MVe chair classes.

The go-forward plan for JoyMoves ‘one month of unlimited classes’ clients. Each of Yoga Yoga and JoyMoves will honor the remainder of our clients ‘one month of unlimited’ classes for both yoga, Nia, Pilates mat and Pilates MVe chair classes.

The go-forward plan for JoyMoves ‘recurring monthly unlimited’ clients. Those JoyMoves clients who are on the recurring monthly unlimited program will also be well taken care of.

  • If you are a Nia, Pilates mat or Pilates MVe chair client, you will continue to be a JoyMoves client and we will bill your credit card for the monthly unlimited program. However, Yoga Yoga will be making you a special offer to entice you to do yoga with them.
  • If you are a yoga client, you will become a Yoga Yoga client and they will be making you a special offer to entice you over to one of their other membership plans.
  • If you are a client who takes Nia, yoga and Pilates mat or MVe classes, we will work with you individually to figure out the go-forward plan that best works for you.
  • We are not contemplating refunds, since all of our programs go-forward.

We will be coming up with cross-marketing plans with Yoga Yoga. We envision that Yoga Yoga clients will receive discounts on JoyMoves’ Pilates and Nia products and services, and that JoyMoves clients will receive discounts on yoga classes at Yoga Yoga. We and Yoga Yoga are currently thinking on what to do on this one.
